OCCUPATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL LICENSING DIVISION/ CONSTRUCTION
RELATED AREAS

Administer occupational and professional licensing procedures that ensured only
qualified, competent individuals are licensed in various licensing categories.

Administer Licensure laws governing approximately 93,000 licensees in 33 specific
areas and administer examinations.

Oversee the preparation, development and administration of all license examinations
and item review meetings with the testing service utilized. Ensure the selection of
content areas and actual questions are within the scope of work allowed by law to be
performed under said license based upon Statute and Regulations.

Because licensing examinations permit 1 person to practice an occupation while
excluding someone else, it is essential that examinations are consistent with the
actual practice of the occupation. They must be of appropriate difficulty level and free from bias with respect to race, gender, and culture. They must discriminate between minimally competent and incompetent candidates.
